Today's letter to Rep. Peter Roskam (R-IL) re: Voter fraud

My letter to my Congresscritter, Rep. Peter Roskam (IL-6) follows.  If you’re interested at all in voting procedures in Illinois, I’d be happy to answer any questions that I can.

I'd like to talk to you today about voting and President Trump's false claims of voter fraud in the election. I'm an election judge in DuPage County and have been since 2002. I couldn't work this election, but for about 10 years I was a judge in your home precinct (Edison Middle School, then Bethel Presbyterian Church). You have interacted with me and I have personally handled yours and your family's applications to vote on several occasions.

As you and I have both voted on election day in exactly the same place, you and I both know that we have strong procedures in place to prevent against fraud in American elections. You and I both know that there is not one iota of evidence of non-citizens voting in our elections. You and I both know that of the *very* few reports in 2016 of actual in-person fraud of any kind, most turned out to be Republican activists "testing" the system, who were, in fact, caught and prosecuted.

As a member of the House leadership team, I implore you to put pressure on President Trump to end these baseless lies, which do nothing but erode confidence in our voting system. Do not let him use his lies to put up new roadblocks to voting for students, minorities, seniors, and the poor. It is undemocratic and un-American. Please stand up for what you know is right and stop this nonsense before it goes too far.
